BROOKLYN, Mich. — Ann Arbor Pioneer runners took first, second and third on Saturday at the speedway course in Brooklyn, Mich., and the Pioneers claimed the top-division girls state title in cross country for a second year in a row.
Pioneer scored 87 points. Crosstown rival Ann Arbor Skyline was the runner-up with 191, giving Ann Arbor the top two teams in the state.
The winning time was 16 minutes, 26.6 seconds, and the top three all ran among the fastest marks in state finals history. Girls from one team had not swept the top three spots in Division 1 since 1983.
Pioneer entered the meet ranked first, ahead of Northville and Skyline, after its top three had already posted the three best times of the season in any division. The program lost just one runner from its 2025 title lineup.
The championship is the eighth in Pioneer history, which ties East Grand Rapids for second most all time.
