ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Ann Arbor voters will fill a vacant school board seat on Tuesday, Nov. 3, choosing among three nonpartisan candidates in a special election, including the trustee who gave up the post in May.
Don Wilkerson, John Benson and Kevin Hudson are on the ballot for the at-large seat. The winner joins the Ann Arbor school board for the two years that remain in the term.
Wilkerson won a seat in 2024 and served as board treasurer before resigning after a misdemeanor charge, which was later dropped; he is now seeking to return. Benson manages investment operations and has children in the district. Hudson is a retired longtime administrator whose last job was as a class principal at Pioneer High School.
Benson and Wilkerson have both made pay for teachers a theme, while the district is collecting public input for a strategic plan that will guide its priorities and spending over the next five years.
The special race shares the ballot with the regular board election, where four of the seven seats are open. Regular board terms run four years, and the write-in filing deadline passed Oct. 23.
