GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The University of Michigan men’s basketball team from Ann Arbor, Mich., wrapped up its preseason schedule with an 83-66 exhibition loss to Houston on Sunday, Oct. 25, at Van Andel Arena.
The Wolverines leaned hard on the three-point shot and it did not pay off. They went 5 of 20 from deep in the first half and finished 9-for-33 on 3-pointers for the game.
Michigan held a 29-25 lead late in the first half after an Oscar Goodman three, but the Cougars closed the half strong and went to the locker room up 38-31. Early foul trouble for several Michigan regulars also cut into the rotation.
Houston pushed its lead to 62-46 midway through the second half, its biggest margin of the afternoon. Roddy Gayle Jr., playing his first exhibition in a Michigan uniform, kept the Wolverines within reach for stretches with two threes.
The Cougars also controlled the glass, outrebounding Michigan 42-31, and won the fast-break scoring 15-9.
The game was the final exhibition for the Wolverines before the games start to count.
