Character

Northside is Ann Arbor's value-oriented family neighborhood — well-maintained post-WWII ranch homes and Cape Cods on modest lots, with excellent access to the Barton Nature Area and Huron River trail system. North Main Street provides a commercial strip with independent coffee shops, dining, and services. The neighborhood has a diverse, established residential character without the prestige pricing of Burns Park or Ann Arbor Hills.

History

Northside developed primarily in the 1950s through 1970s as Ann Arbor expanded north of the original city plat. The neighborhood's proximity to the Huron River and Barton Pond made it attractive for post-war suburban development oriented around outdoor recreation access.
