ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The Ann Arbor-based Michigan men’s basketball team wraps up its preseason with its toughest look yet, a Sunday exhibition against No. 10 Houston, and coach Mike Boynton Jr. heads into it juggling several health questions.
Joseph Hartman will sit for roughly two weeks with a shoulder problem, Boynton said at the team’s media session, though the staff does not view it as a season-ender. Brandon McCoy Jr. will travel with the team after another post-surgery checkup but is not expected to play, and Oscar Goodman has dealt with back tightness that imaging has not explained.
Marcus Moller is back after health tests went well. Boynton said he expects the Cougars to lean on physical play, especially on the defensive boards.
The game tips at 1 p.m. at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids as part of The Battleground 2k26 and streams on B1G+. The 16th-ranked Wolverines, the defending national champions, are 2-0 in exhibitions after beating Eastern Michigan 87-62 and Oregon State 98-93.
Michigan leads the all-time series with Houston 3-1, including a 64-63 NCAA Tournament win in 2018. The regular season opens Nov. 2 against Oakland at Crisler Center.
