A former nurse at Trinity Health Ann Arbor, Michigan, is facing a federal misdemeanor after she was accused of helping a man in federal immigration custody leave the hospital.
Chloe Renae Freeman, 33, removed the man’s IV and took him out through the ambulance entrance while he was a patient there. The man has not been located.
Freeman was released on a $10,000 bond. She is no longer employed at Trinity Health Ann Arbor.
Shahad Atiya, founder of Atiya Law and a criminology professor at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, said medical workers are being caught between a duty to patients and federal immigration enforcement, and that more cases like this one are likely.
Freeman, a 33-year-old former nurse, is not still on staff at Trinity Health Ann Arbor. The federal case against her is a misdemeanor, her bond is $10,000, and the man who left by the ambulance entrance has not been located.
