ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Michigan has a starting quarterback for Saturday against No. 6 Indiana at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor. Head coach Kyle Whittingham just is not telling anyone who it is.
Speaking at his weekly news conference on Monday, Whittingham said the staff settled the question late Sunday night after reviewing film, and he did not want to hand the Hoosiers an advantage by naming the starter.
The choice is between sophomore Bryce Underwood, who had started 19 straight games, and freshman Tommy Carr, who took over at halftime against Penn State with the Wolverines down 3-0. Carr led two third-quarter touchdown drives and later ran 12 yards for a score on third-and-9 to seal a 21-18 win. That result kept Michigan from opening Big Ten play 0-3 for the first time since 1967.
Underwood, the top-ranked recruit in the 2025 class, has thrown for 924 yards with five touchdowns and six interceptions this fall, two of them in each of his last two games. Carr went 5 of 7 for 47 yards in his half of work.
Michigan sits at 4-2 and 1-2 in the conference. Indiana, the defending national champion, comes in at 6-1 and 3-1.
