ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The No. 19 Michigan field hockey team snapped a four-game skid Sunday with a 2-1 win over No. 18 Monmouth at Phyllis Ocker Field in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Michigan scored 30 seconds in. The Wolverines earned a corner after finding a foot of a Hawks defender, and Juliette Manzur put in the rebound of an Eva Bernardy shot.
Esmée de Willigen doubled the lead at the 46:23 mark early in the fourth quarter. Monmouth answered on a penalty corner 19 seconds later, and the visitors were left without a shot for the rest of the game.
Michigan outshot Monmouth 12-5 and held a 7-3 edge in penalty corners. Monmouth goalkeeper Charlie Bowman finished with six saves.
The win moves Michigan to 6-6 overall and 1-4 in the Big Ten. Monmouth, which entered 3-0 in its conference, fell to 8-3 with its second straight loss.
Michigan now opens a three-game road stretch with Big Ten games at Rutgers on Oct. 16 and Penn State on Oct. 18.
