COLUMBUS, Ohio — Michael Hage had a hand in every Michigan goal Sunday night, and the top-ranked Wolverines needed all of them, rallying twice before beating Ohio State 5-4 in overtime at Value City Arena to split the weekend series.

Hage finished with a goal and four assists, the third five-point game of his 81-game college career, and he stretched his lead as the Big Ten’s top career scorer among active skaters. His last helper set up the winner. After Michigan won the only faceoff of the 3-on-3 extra period, Hage pulled defenders toward him in the offensive zone and slipped the puck to Adam Valentini, who finished at 4:16 for his first career overtime winner.

The game swung back and forth through four lead changes and four ties. Ohio State scored first on a power play by Nathan Lewis midway through the opening period. Michigan answered with two power-play goals in the second, from Malcolm Spence and J.P. Hurlbert, and took a 2-1 lead to the second break.

The Buckeyes tied it with another man-advantage goal early in the third. Hage put the Wolverines back in front at 10:11, but Ohio State tied it again with a shorthanded goal at 14:06 and went ahead on a breakaway at 17:38. Spence tied the game for good from the front of the net with 1:12 left in regulation, his second goal of the night and sixth of the season.

Jayden Perron added three assists, and Jack Ivankovic made 23 saves for his eighth win. Michigan outshot Ohio State 32-27 and won 36 of 60 faceoffs in front of a crowd of 4,303.

Michigan moves to 8-1-0 and 1-1-0 in the Big Ten, while Ohio State drops to 3-5-0. The Wolverines are off next weekend before hosting Penn State at Yost Ice Arena on Nov. 13 and 14.
