CEDAR PARK, Texas — Fourth-ranked Michigan State heads to Texas this weekend for one of the most talent-heavy college hockey games ever scheduled, taking on No. 8 North Dakota in Saturday night’s U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame showcase.
Puck drop is set for 7:07 p.m. Central time, which is 8:07 p.m. in Michigan, at the H-E-B Center in the Austin suburb of Cedar Park. The arena is normally home to the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League.
The two rosters combine for 13 former NHL first-round draft picks, the most ever to appear in a single college hockey game, according to the host program.
North Dakota is the host of record, and the event was put together with Ralph Engelstad Arena, the H-E-B Center and the Austin tourism office.
The game will air on Midco Sports and stream on NCHC.tv, the North Dakota conference’s streaming service. A plan for a national cable broadcast fell through late in talks.
The neutral-site trip gives the Spartans a high-profile nonconference test against a traditional power, and a chance for Michigan State fans spending Halloween weekend in central Texas to see two top-10 teams.
