ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has gone to court against HailgateA2 LLC and its owner, John Klein, accusing the Ann Arbor ticket outfit of selling University of Michigan football and Big House concert tickets that buyers never received or got refunds for.

The civil complaint, filed Oct. 8 in Wayne County Circuit Court and announced this week, also says the company implied a connection to the university that it did not have. It seeks money damages and civil fines, asks the court to dissolve the business and would bar Klein and Hailgate from selling any tickets or memorabilia tied to the university or to stadium events.

The attorney general’s Consumer Protection Team opened its inquiry after complaints tied to Morgan Wallen concerts at Michigan Stadium. Other claims in the filing involve sports memorabilia, including a helmet marking the Wolverines’ 2023 national title that three people paid for and none received, and a set of seven tickets bought for about $1,400 that turned out to include only one valid ticket.

Hailgate began in 2021 as an organized tailgating group and became a company two years later. Nessel advised fans to check out ticket sellers, stick to reputable sites and pay by credit card. People who think they bought bad tickets can call the Consumer Protection Team at 877-765-8388.
