Lodi Township, Mich. — Stephenson Ceramics Gallery is closing to the public after more than six decades, ending an era for the internationally recognized studio founded by artists John and Susanne Stephenson.

Oct. 17 marks the last day to purchase work directly from the artists before the collection is archived. Customers can browse inventory online before visiting. Extended hours run Thursday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

For more than 60 years, the Stephensons ceramic artwork has appeared in private and public collections and museums worldwide. The Stephenson Ceramics Legacy Project is documenting and archiving their work and producing catalogues that chronicle highlights of their careers and travels.

The gallery is located at 4380 Waters Road in Lodi Township. Donations supporting the Legacy Project are being accepted, with contributions from $25 to $100 receiving test tiles as gifts. Washtenaw Community College serves the broader Ann Arbor-Ypsilanti arts and workforce pipeline near the studio.

Project director Patti Smith is coordinating visits and Legacy Project gifts as the studio winds down public sales this week.
