PLYMOUTH, Mich. — A Plymouth Township warehouse is now home to Pareto Mobility, a company building what it calls the first fully flat-floor commercial bus available in North America.

The firm opened a manufacturing and assembly facility in a 50,000-square-foot warehouse on the Burroughs campus to produce its Step-Free bus, designed with ramp-based boarding and room for multiple wheelchair users at once.

Coverage places the plant at 13150 Haggerty Road and says the opening marks a return of commercial bus manufacturing to Michigan five years after Champion Bus stopped operating in the state in 2021.

The bus is described as totally flat from front to back, so riders using wheelchairs, walkers or other mobility devices can board without a traditional wheelchair lift and sit throughout the vehicle.

Plymouth Township Supervisor Chuck Curmi said Pareto is the kind of new business the township wants, combining technology, research and light manufacturing under one roof in a building once tied to Burroughs Corporation work dating to 1936.

Local reporting says the plant is also creating first jobs for recent graduates entering manufacturing, as the company finishes its first bus built at the site for dealer delivery.
